Members Only September Tournament:

The scoresheet for the last tournament of the lawn bowling season is now tucked away in the 2024 binder.  Friday, the 27th of September was a perfect day for the “Members Only Tournament” with sunshine and a cool breeze. Twenty-five members competed as pairs but 25 does not divide into pairs and some lawn bowlers preferred to play one game instead of three 8 end games so the executive set up a competition to include everyone who wanted to play. Names were drawn to set up the tournament and it was mostly pairs. There were a couple of three person teams where instead of throwing 4 bowls each, the three players shared 8 bowls to equal the 4 each being thrown by the pairs. Sounds confusing but it worked. There was one team made up of a skip and then 3 people played one game each. The three-for-one person team was comprised of very experienced members and won the tournament with 3 wins and 32 points. Dan Dekking skipped with Jeanne Burch, Carol Carlson and Morris Hand making up the rest of the team. They were followed in second place by Andrew Blayney, a new bowler and Jennifer Pearson who is a novice bowler. They also had three wins and 22 points. The third place team was a combination of Bill Bouwman, an experienced skip, and Shirley Reinders, a novice. They had 2 wins with 33 points. In 4th place was another first year bowler, Ellie Smith with her skip, Jill Calvert-Goetz, a former provincial champion. They had 2 wins and 23 points. A barbecue was enjoyed by the participants and the day finished with a variety of desserts. Lawn bowling continues until Thanksgiving.
